Schroth Method

The Schroth Method, was developed in Germany in the 1920s. It is a technique specialized for patients diagnosed with scoliosis. This method is offered in only a handful of hospitals in the Chicagoland area, and our lead therapist is specifically trained and certified in the Schroth Method.

The Schroth Method involves a series of exercises, stretches and breathing techniques, which can be an effective therapy for adolescent patients with scoliosis with unknown causes (idiopathic scoliosis) and adult patients with significant spinal curves. It is a conservative treatment that has also been demonstrated to slow or stop curve progression in adolescents. Our therapist will work with the patient to identify and assess which patients will benefit from this as part of their treatment for scoliosis. Our therapists will guide patients through exercises selected specifically to address their individual degree of curvature, symptoms and overall health.

Patients who have been treated at our clinic will find that the Schroth Method not only helps them manage their scoliosis, improve their strength, function, posture and breathing, but also increase their self-awareness and improve their self-image.
